Go to the adaq1 computer in the counting house. See if coda is open on the screen in Workspace 1.
If you do not see the coda GUI window, open a terminal and type "startcoda" in the terminal. You will see the coda GUI and windows for various data acquision components appear.
Working on the coda window:
Check the Run State. If the data acquisition is running and you wish to end the run, click the "End Run" button. If the data acquisition is not running, proceed to the next step.
Look at the configuration setting. The default configuration for GMP is LHRSnew and for DVCS is DVCS.
If the configuration needs to be changed, click on Configurations->cool and select the required configuration. If changing from the DVCS configuration to the LHRSnew configuration, you should also do this.
Add a comment in the 'Start-of-Run' pop-up window if needed.
To end the run click the "End Run" button. Acknowledge the 'End-of-Run' pop-up window.
How to run coda on the RIGHT HRS:
Opening the coda window:
Go to the adaq2 computer in the counting house.
The default configuration for GMP is RHRSadaq2.
If the configuration needs to be changed, click on Configurations->cool and select the required configuration.
Login as a-onl on one of the analysis machines - aonl1, aonl2, or aonl3 (e.g. "ssh a-onl@aonl2").
Type "goonlana" - this will take you to the online analysis directory (/adaqfs/home/a-onl/gmp/replay).
How to replay a LEFT HRS run:
Type "analyzer".
At the prompt, type ".x replay_L.C(run_number)". (Provide the run_number you want to replay, e.g. .x replay_L.C(10001); for the left arm the number will be less than 20000.)
When prompted, enter the number of events to replay (type "-1" or leave input blank to replay all events in the run).
If the same run_number has been previously replayed, you will be prompted on whether you wish to overwrite the output of that previous replay.
How to replay a RIGHT HRS run:
Type "analyzer".
At the prompt, type ".x replay_R.C(run_number)". (Provide the run_number you want to replay, e.g. .x replay_R.C(21000); for the right arm the number will be greater than 20000.)
When prompted, enter the number of events to replay (type "-1" or leave input blank to replay all events in the run).
If the same run_number has been previously replayed, you will be prompted on whether you wish to overwrite the output of that previous replay.
How to look at the online histograms:
After replaying the raw data, quit the Hall A Analyzer by typing ".q". Then, in the same directory (/adaqfs/home/a-onl/gmp/replay), check the online histograms.
For the LEFT HRS, type "onlineLHRS run_number" (e.g. onlineLHRS 2253).
For the RIGHT HRS, type "onlineRHRS run_number" (e.g. onlineRHRS 20353).
The first set of online histograms contains information on the HRS detectors for that run. When this GUI is closed, a second set of online histograms is displayed containing beam/reconstruction/physics information.
To print these histograms as a pdf file, click the "Print All" button in the bottom right of the GUI, and a dialog box to save the plots will appear. (N.B. The online histograms for each run are automatically saved during the replay as pdf files to the "summary_files" sub-directory on the aonl machines. In addition, the online plots for the last replayed run are shown on the Hall A Realtime Webpage.)
The raw rates of the trigger and detector channels can be accessed using the xscaler GUI. Below are the instructions for opening this GUI. (N.B. These screens are generally already open on the agen5 machine (located above the adaq2 machine).
There is a separate xscalar GUI for the LEFT HRS and the RIGHT HRS. If both xscaler GUIs are not open then follow these instructions:
Login as a-onl on one of the analysis machines - aonl1, aonl2, or aonl3 (e.g. "ssh a-onl@aonl1").
Type "goxscalernew". Then type "./xscaler Left" to open the LEFT HRS xscaler window, or type "./xscaler Right" to open the RIGHT HRS xscaler window.
Select the proper tab (e.g. Trig-Cher-S0) on the top of the window. Select the "Show Rates" checkbox to display the current raw rates, or select the "show counts" checkbox to display to total counts since the start of the last run.
Type "spot_L" to check the Raster/BPM on the Left HRS and "spot_R" on the Right HRS. This will check the data for the most recent run. If you wish to check an earlier run, add the run number after the command (e.g. spot_L 10189).
Login to the adaq1 or adaq2 machine as user atrig (e.g. ssh atrig@adaq1).
Type "trigsetup".
Check the settings for both the LEFT HRS MLU and the RIGHT HRS MLU in the GUI which appears. Set each MLU to the correct mode (i.e singles mode or GMP standard mode), and make sure all trigger channels are enabled.
To lower the spectrometer momentum, simply set the momentum in the P0 SET field. The curents on the magnets will adjust automatically. For the LHRS, an additional step is needed to set the Q1 momentum (Refer to the DVCS documentation for additional information on this).
To increase the spectrometer momentum, you need to cycle the Q2 and Q3 magnets first and then enter the desired momentum setting. To cyle the Q2 and Q3, turn off their regulation (button next to P0 SET ), set Q2 and Q3 to 1600 A (button next I(A) field), wait two minutes at 1600A, set the p0 to the desired value, and turn on the Q2 and Q3 regulations.
