Hall A Coordinating Committee Minutes 5 September 2002 Status of the Hall ------------------ Due to delays in the arrival of the first septum magnet, we will install the cryotarget and run the deuteron photo-disintegration experiment and then finish the deuteron electro-disintegration experiment. Then in Nov., install the first septum and in Dec. take the septum optics data. The Jan. we would be ready to run small angle GDH. The parity experiments would then follow and the Hypernuclear experiment. This is of course a tentative plan. The Coordinating Committee believes that this is the best possible use of the beam given the constraints of the other Halls and the delayed septum. Institutional Review -------------------- During last month the Department of Energy's new director of the office of science, Dr. Ray Orbach, visited the Lab. (http://www.jlab.org/news/archive/2002/review/orbach.html) His visit was viewed as very positive, but he made it clear their would be on CD0 for the upgrade until after he has had a chance to develop a 20 yr. long range plan for manager scientific project. This hopefully will be completed by 2003. Orbach did give the Lab two notes of caution. One was to be carefully to keeps its excellent safety record (there are statistical signs things are starting decline a bit). Second, Orbach expressed concern that the Lab (many accelerator division) is working on developing too many, unfunded long range projects. Jefferson Lab has created a science review committee, chaired by D. Geesaman (ANL), to address this issue. pCDR ---- The pCDR will go the Larry and the upper management of the lab on Sept. 9th. The pCDR which will be to a special Jefferson Lab PAC will be sent out in Dec. The special PAC will meet in Jan. to review the physics of all four Halls. Collaboration Meeting & Analysis Workshop ----------------------------------------- The next collaboration meeting will be on Dec. 12th and 13th. D. Armstrong and D. Higinbotham will also organize the second annual analysis workshop which will be held Dec. 9th, 10th, and 11th. Collaborator Requests --------------------- Arun Saha has asked that a complete collaboration slide be made. This would part of our change to a spread sheet instead of WORD for keeping the collaboration information. Also, Kathy noted that several of the publication links on the Hall A web page need to be fixed. Heather will try to fix Journal and Talk links fixed using WORD. (note: the fact these are Windows idea of HTML is the reason they are so slow to load) Doug will try to fix the TECHNOTE page by using a script to strip the Hall A technote information from the Jefferson Lab archive. Hopefully the journal and talk links will soon be able to be scripted also. Upcoming Conferences -------------------- The CC discussed the upcoming major conferences, such as APS spring meeting and the Intersections conference. During the next two weeks (Sept. 6 - 20) the CC will be discussing possible recommendation by e-mail. A talk on nucleon spin structure was already identified as a talk that would be appropriate for a general audience.
