Dear Collaborators, Please find the latest minutes of the Hall A CC meeting below. Happy Holiday, Kathy (for the CC) Hall A Coordinating Committee Minutes December 11, 2003 Status of the Hall ------------------ Both septums have been installed in the Hall. As of Dec. 11, problems with a vacuum leak on the left septum, a cooling blockage on the right septum and problems with the slow controls were being looked into. The problems have been resolved as of this writing. The Hall began checkout with beam on Dec. 17th. The plan is to commission the left septum in December and begin data taking for the Hypernuclear experiment, E94-107, in January, 2005. This plan is assuming that the accelerator can achieve the energy spread required for the Hypernuclear experiment concurrent with G0 running in Hall C. Hall A Review and PAC 25 Results -------------------------------- Six Hall A proposals were submitted to PAC 25. The proposals requested a total of 147 days of beam time. One of the proposals, PR04-012, was reviewed during this round and received Hall A Collaboration status. Several others had already been previously reviewed. There were also four letters of intent submitted for PAC review. PR04-002 hadronization (Hall A Collab Exp) PR04-007 threshold pion production (Hall A Collab Exp) PR04-011 pentaquark photoproduction PR04-012 pentaquark electroproduction (Hall A Collab Exp) PR04-015 Coulomb sum rule (Hall A Collab Exp) PR04-018 elastic Helium (Hall A Collab Exp) LOI04-001 Gep using 3He LOI04-002 pentaquark LOI04-004 pentaquark LOI04-006 Neptune Analysis Workshop ----------------- A day-long analysis workshop was held on Dec. 10, 2003. The workshop focused on the new C++ analyzer and how to use it. The analyzer will be used to analyze the upcoming Hypernuclear experiment, E94-107. The format of future analysis workshops was discussed. It was suggested to annually alternate analysis workshops with physics workshops. Collaboration comment is welcome. Hall A Physics Workshop ------------------------ There was a suggestion to have a workshop at JLab focusing on Hall A physics goals pre-12 GeV upgrade. Topics could include whether Hall A instrumentation is optimal and whether we should focus on particular research aspects as a collaboration. Collaboration comment is welcome. Annual Report -------------- The Hall A Annual Report for 2003 is finished and will soon be available for downloading from the Hall A web page. New Collaboration Members -------------------------- Three new members of the collaboration were identified by the CC: Rikki Roche from Old Dominion University, Xiaochao Zheng from Argonne National Lab and Kevin Kramer from Duke University. All were voted into the collaboration by a voice vote during the collaboration business meeting.
