How to start the CODA acquisition using Runcontrol ?  
  • Take a xterm window
  • Under the prompt /home/pavi 0>execute the command acq.
  • It allows defining the right pathname and environment variables.
  • After execution, the prompt has to define as follows: /adaqs1/data1/acq 0>
  • Under this prompt, check the data bases connections status via the commands :

ps -ef | grep msqld and ps -ef | grep cmlogServer

  • you should see these processes running.
  • If not, under the prompt, execute the command start_servers.
  • Under the prompt, execute the command runcontrol
  • This command has to be executed as a foreground task (no "&" at the end of the command) because a lot of comments will be written on it during the data taking.

 

  • The following window should appear :

  • click on the "CONNECT" button. You will get this window

  • Select the session cpt1
  • Check the fields are correctly fulfilled as the above picture : adaqs1, compton_polarimeter and cpt1
  • Click the "New " button. you will get the following window :

 

  • Check you have well in :

the Experiment field the value compton_polarimeter

the session field, the value cpt1

the rcserver field, the value adaqs1

  • Click on the Configure button and you will get the following window :

  • Click on the "Run type" button :
  • Select one of the following item :
    • Fastacq

    This is the standard run type to take data in a nominal situation.

    • Beamtune

    This run type could be use during beam tuning phases. It does not record good data, but by connecting to ROC1 (telnet cptaq1), you could monitor the trigger counting rate more quickly than with spy_acq.

    • Scanacq

    This run type is used during the electrons detector harp scan procedure. It stores in particular the electrons detector ruler values at high counting rates.

    • Linscan

    This is the procedure to determine the non-linearity of the ADC. This run type is used to scan the response of the photon detector electronic with test pulses of different amplitude. The acquisition system set the electronics to send 50ns long test pulses to the integration and ADC devices, and increase progressively the amplitude of these pulses.

    • Others

    The other run types are essentially used for debug purposes. If you are not an expert of the acquisition (so if you are not Damien Neyret or Francois Bugeon) DO NOT USE THEM !!!! .

  • Confirm via the "OK" button




  • You should see in the window below the following message "transition configure succeeded"
  • Click on the "Download" Button to get the following messages.

  • Start the run clicking on the "Start Run" button
  • You should see :
    • the message transition Go succeeded
    • the counting rates distribution
    • the number of events in this run is updating
    • the run status active
    • the run number updated

  • Click on End Run button to stop the acquisition.
