Common problems and solutions
Moving the spectrometer
From the bottom menu bar, in the window containing Hall A General Tools:
press bogies_RIGHT from the "graph" icon in the taskbar.
On the bogies control screen:
press Angle->Floor Mark from the "graph" icon in the bottom menu bar to determine the Floor Mark and Vernier settings.
release the Brake and clamp by clicking on the PSM Enable button, the DM Enable button, the Brake Release button and the Clamp Release button.
Wait for the PSM OK, DM OK, Brakes OK.
Then
Type rpm value for the motor speed (max 600 rpm) with the following conventions:
- to move to a larger angle the left arm, the speed should be positive
- to move to a larger angle the right arm, the speed should be negative
Watch the spectrometer motion from the camera: you adjust the camera by clicking on the Camera Move+ or Move+ button.
When you are getting close, slow down to about 200 rpm
Stop the motion by clicking on the Brake and Clamp buttons.
Changing momentum setting of the HRS
From the HAC window:
enter the desired momentum setting in the P0 SET field of each spectrometer following the next rules:
- to decrease the momentum, just enter the new value.
- to increase the momentum, the magnets need to be recycled; See Instructions on the white board of the Counting House.
Downloading the trigger
Running CODA
---> Right arm DAQ:
- Logon to adaql2 as user a-onl
- Normally, runcontrol will be already running. If not, follow Cold start steps.
To start or stop a run, push Start Run or End Run. Start Run is the same as the sequence "prestart" then "go".
- Cold start
Kill all CODA process on the workstation, by typing
> kcoda
run:
> rcserver
in any window and leave it
start CODA by:
> runcontrol
start 'coda_er' interactively like this:
> coda_er -i -s onla -n ER1 -t ER -f /adaqfs/halla/a-onl/scripts/bobfile.tcl
In runcontrol GUI, press in the following order: Configure, Reset, Download and StartRun.
If runcontrol stuck, wait 1 min, then Cancel, Reset and Download
then for data monitoring:
> datamon
---> Left arm DAQ:
- Logon to adaqs2 as user adev
- Normally, runcontrol will be already running. If not, follow Cold start steps.

In the HAC control window:
in the Miscellaneous section, click on the Crate Resets button.
in the Hall A Slow Controls window, click on the Reset button associated with the tripped HV crate.

Plotting time dependences of EPICS variables
Press the graph icon launches StripTool which allows to plot any EPICS variables vs. time.
Making HALOG entry
As user adaq on any adaq.. machine, type:
> halog
enter text and/or graphics.
To enter graphics, click Grab Screen. The halog window will disappear and you can select (by clicking on the left mouse button) the window you want to attach to your entry. You can also select an part of the screen by holding down the left moose button and dragging the cursor along. Then the halog window will reappear and you can accept or discard the grabbed picture or go to a second screen grab.
click on make entry then you should read "Entry complete" on the lower right corner of the window.
