GEn biweekly meeting - 5th January 2005. - Room A-110 Present :- T. Holmstrom, D. Higinbotham, B. Wojtsekhowski, B. Reitz, T. Averett, A. Kelleher, M. Bellis, A. Gavalya, A. Shahinyan, A. Kolarkar Begin - 10:30 am ~ Meeting day/times may be changed to accommodate the new schedules for the new semester. ~ Alan : - The oven used to test fit the design to be made of Aluminum instead of ceramic. Can be made "in-house". - Currently busy with Happex design; will get back to GEn as soon as that is done. - Use of elastomers to attach the cell and mount it on to the oven. - Todd - RTV "crumbles" at high temperatures over ~ 2 days (as seen in his lab); Aidan to test alternate material, with Alan's help. - Fix the orientation of the cell with respect to the flange and oven. ~ Albert : - Showed diagrams of the Neutron Arm (NA) DAQ platform (or the 'rack design'); it is both front and back accessible; the one for BigBite(BB) should be ready soon - Bodo would like to have BB platform physically close to the NA one - Calculate height and estimate total weight and provide information before he leaves for Armenia (Jan 15th) ~ Bodo : - Update on detector construction - BB frame has arrived; it is in the test lab in it's final position; first wire chamber should be ready in about 10 days; to be mounted vertically (BW) - Igor is coming to work on the wire chamber; then the rack and frame would be moved to the Hall for testing - Needs more NIM modules/crates and VME crates (because some are presently used by SRC until middle of April); - short term solution: get the equipment back from UVa, or locate unused spares - additionally need cables for TDCs - contact Hall B for crimping tool - Gave out copies of the GEn installation draft; JP & TA and BW & AS to discuss target and detector plans, respectively, and talk to Ed about the final plan. - TA, JP, AMK (Aidan), AK (Ameya) to comment on target related issues; BW, AS on detectors - Software is "sleeping" till students get back ~ Bogdan : - Pre-shower assembly still requires design; currently large space for the 3 cm scintillators between the pre-shower and shower; would try to 'squeeze' this space; might require longer light-guides and matching of dimensions; number of scintillators to reduce from 16 to 14. - GREAT VICTORY - cage finally ready - base still in design stage - Dima has tested 20 CMU detectors with good results - Additional veto detectors; 15 long (phototubes arriving soon) and 15 short (plastic arriving next week); still to decide dimensions of phototubes - Installation of detectors to wait till the cage is assembled ~ Word from Daniela Rohe : - Has researched and analyzed available magnetometers - Sent in analysis of magnetic field direction measurement techniques and the specifications of the magnetometers - Wolfgang's compass (option 1) and magnetometers (option 2) both to be used and results compared; (magnetometers OK if <$5K.) - Ameya will be the contact person, and be in touch with Daniela - Ingo to be at JLab from 13th to 24th Jan ~ Ameya : - Working with "trim cards" to power the target magnet; to research if it can be remotely controlled with LabView (EPICS + LabView) - Document detailing the magnet box is in preparation End - 11:57 am
