Preshower Tile Radiation Hardness Tests at JLab in Hall A, 2016

Summary and Next step:

  1. HAList Task ID: 803
  2. Some of the preshower tiles are attached to or located near one of the Hall A ion chambers. A Strip Chart of the Hall A Ion Chambers for durations of 8 hours and 2 hours can be found here.
  3. Lower range dosimeter (40): 1 krad - 100 krad
    Higher range dosimeter (83): 10 krad - 2000 krad
  4. Every two weeks starting on February 23rd, the dosimeters will be pulled and read by RadCon. Initial reports indicated that at least one of the dosimeters read 30 krads.
  5. The preshower tile and dosimetry located in the Hall A dump cage will remain in place and will not be checked until after the spring run period is over on April 14th.
  6. On 02/23/2016, preshower tile CNCS 3 was moved from CEBAF Center room F358 to the beam left side of the target scattering chamber, i.e., opposite to where CNCS 2 is located.
  7. Starting the afternoon of 9 March, there was no beam due to contamination in one of the CHL's until 28 March, then beam was infrequent until 9 April due to various issues. Due to these disruptions in beam delivery, the every other week readings were suspended until the end of the experiment on 25 April.
  8. The times below the dates indicate approximately the time when the dosimetry was pulled for RadCon to read them.
  9. On 25 April, all of the dosimetry was pulled except for those in the Hall A dump region. These will be removed for reading at some later date when the radiation level has reduced to reasonable level. The preshower tiles were returned to UVA on 9 May 2016, except for the one in the Hall A dump. The dosimeter readings were available on 16 June 2016.
  10. The reading from the Hall A dump dosimetry was available on 9 September 2016. The preshower tile will be returned to UVA on my next visit to JLab.
