Swing Shift Summary
Leader: Sarah Phillips
Target: Chunhua Chen
Third: Haiyan Gao
Summary
At the start of the shift, James was finishing up a target anneal. He
then polarized our target. We jumped right into production running after
a quick check of the beam positions. We did production running for the
rest of the shift.
James thinks that the target was underperforming during this shift. See
halog 382779 for an entry by James on the target polarization.
Timeline
- 16:00 - Shift started with no beam, as James is doing a target
anneal. He plans to be done soon, so I start getting ready to resume
production running by having the IHWP flipped to OUT.
- 16:50 - The target is polarized and we are asking for 50 nA. We are
going to production running! We will ask for beam, start a production
run, check the beam positions, and do spot_L plots. If things look
good, we will keep going with production, otherwise we will do the whole
beam centering program.
- 17:00 - Things look good, so we are going to keep going on our
production running.
- 17:20 - Two runs got mislabeled in the chaos of getting started.
Runs 24459 and 5752 are production runs, not tungsten calibration runs
like their headers proclaim.
- 18:18 - The beam has been somewhat unstable for the last 5 minutes
or so. It looks like they are having trouble getting Hall C up to high
current.
- 18:24 - It looks like they are still having troubles with Hall C.
Our beam positions are wandering somewhat, and so is the beam energy.
- 18:36 - The beam has been a little unstable (tripping off, and the
beam positions wandering somewhat) while MCC has been attempting to bring
Hall C up to high current for the last 20 minutes. I made a halog entry
about it (halog
382736).
- 18:37 - DAQ issues for the right arm. We got a student in here to
help us restart CODA (about 8 minutes, but it was mostly during a beam
trip).
- 21:08 - I did an estimate of where we are, since we haven't been at
the optimal 75% target polarization that the run sheet was calculated
for. I put my estimate in halog
382766.
- 22:09 - James calls. He thinks that the target polarization is
dropping more than he thought, and thinks that maybe we should switch to
the bottom target during the next set of dilution runs. We have a way to
go before we change momentum settings, so we'll stay where we are for
now. See
halog 382779 for an entry by James on the target polarization.
- 24:00 - End of shift! Production running!
Notes for the next shift:
- Keep an eye on the energy; the value was wandering a little earlier.
- We didn't do a bleed-through measurement, since Hall C wasn't on
most of the swing shift, so it is up to the owl shift to make up for it!
- Hall C is now in control of the IHWP, so keep track of when they
flip it. Ideally, you want an ihwp flip about halfway through each
point. If they don't flip it for some reason, make sure that you do.
- Do a dilution run for each point
- Do 2/3 with the right arm before moving to the next point.
- Keep an eye on the beam current so it doesn't drift down to 40 nA.
Keep and eye on the beam positions too.
- If MCC cannot deliver beam due to an FSD on the Moller target when
you know the target is out, ask them to reboot the IOC.
