The following plot shows the acceptance, phi0 (horizontal) as a function of theta0 (vertical) for a point target at y0=0 for the "standard tune" of the spectrometer, using field settings as used in the commissioning of September 1996, with quadrupole field gradients and effective lengths as measured by the QMM collaboration, and using the best of our current understanding of the configuration of the dipole field. Also input was the best of our present knowledge of the locations and sizes of the defining apertures in the spectrometer. Please note that no solid angle defining slit in front of Q1 was considered. In that case the slit will add further limitations to the acceptance, especially as y0 increases for extended targets.
In the calculations a working model of the spectrometer was setup as an input directive file for the program SNAKE and then a systematic search at each value of momentum was performed in order to find the maximum allowable value of phi (f) for each of 14 values of theta (q) ranging from -65 to 65 mr in 10 mr steps. The minimum step taken in phi was 1 mr. Actual numerical results with limiting apertures are shown below:
