Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting July 15, 2008

1)    Installation: (Ed Folts)

a)    Target foil supports are in position

b)    Chamber support is in place

c)    Hadron Detector went up today

d)    Wire Chamber to be installed by the end of the week

e)    Working on motion mechanism controls

f)     Working on Power supply upgrades

g)    Q3 has been de-stung

h)   Re He leak test: we used a lot less He than expected. We are off the hook for the time being.

2)    Al Gavalya:

a)    Had a meeting last week with alignment re Compton installation. Joyce is working with them.

b)    Susan continues with Polarized 3He work.

c)    Macon will return to us on September 17, 2008.

d)    Al owes J-P cost to completion for Transversity

e)    Work continues on PREX magnet. Pavel is doing simulations.

3)    Bert Manzlak:

a)    Last week senior management was  presented with the results of the ISM assessment

i)     4 major positive attributes

ii)    3 weaknesses

iii)   Final report to the lab in August

iv)   We have the highest marks of labs looked at so far

4)    Doug Higinbotham:

a)    Gas Čerenkov is the last major issue re BigBite detectors

i)     Hall B has agreed to test our gas bottle

ii)    Cosmic ray testing is ongoing

5)    Alexandre Camsonne:

a)    Just back from Clermont-Ferrand. Where he worked on the Compton electron detector

i)     Electron detector to be shipped next week

b)    Working on new version of ARS(?)

c)    Will discuss installation of DVCS calorimeter with Doug.

6)    Ole Hansen:

a)    Counting House Computer upgrade is in progress. Should be done by the end of the week.

7)    Vince Sulkosky:

a)    Albert found the missing S2m cables. They were in Warwick Storage

b)    Ensuring that S2m electronics are in place

c)    Continuing work with summer student re GDH background analysis

8)    J-P Chen:

a)    Polarized 3He instrumentation moving to the Counting  House

b)    Checking on cabling needs

c)    Cell characterization continues

i)     Analyzing data to find optimal running conditions

d)    NIM paper re Polarized 3He? J-P agrees one should be written.

9)    Bob Michaels:

a)    Preparing for HAPPEX/PREX meeting next week

b)    Testing 18-bit ADC’s (Qweak vs. ours, they’re about the same)

c)    There’s a missing custom CAMAC amplifier. It has “S2 EDT” in its name. If you know anything about it please contact Bob (rom@jlab.org)

10) Sirish Nanda:

a)    Compton:

i)     Had a meeting with Neil Wilson and Chris Curtis re electron detector installation.

(1)  Overall looks OK

(2)  Neil checked things in the Hall and has one issue re the hoist. He has some alternate ideas (to be discussed)

ii)    Working on MOU with ODU

11) Bogdan Wojtsekhowski:

a)    Testing of A1 is going well

i)     Some equipment is missing (from the cleanup).

ii)    Finishing early next week, then ready to install

b)    Trieste proceedings submitted

c)    RCS paper in preparation

d)    Making progress with Super BigBite

12) Eugene Chudakov:

a)    Re Møller upgrade:

i)     Paul has identified pieces that can be ordered

ii)    Design needs to be done for long lead items

13) John LeRose:

a)    Checked on problem noted last May with NMR probe A on the left HRS. Vacuum box is opened and we are ready to go inside the magnet to service the probe if needed. Found that the probe, with no field, no longer exhibits the problem noted in May (see halog 241951). Since the magnet is currently warm we can’t test the probe with field. Will leave the vacuum box open and retest with field when the magnet is cold.
