Meeting held at JLab in room 16/84 from 10am to 11am with:
Charles, Jeff, Tom, Albert, Artush, Ting, David and Franck

    Report

    • RTV cookie/mold: Albert has just tried the "test" mold, trying to make 4 cookies with different meniscus radii. The cookies will be ready on thursday and tested right away, for optical contact with Pb-glass. We will then decide if we stick with the cookie solution with a certain radius or if we try optical grease, assuming it doesn't leak.

    •
    • Circuit board/Components soldering: Clive/jeff/Mike have finished 200 circuit boards. Also, they have modified the ones that were not correct (wrong side for one resitor and two capacitors).

    • Monitoring system: We have discussed the monitoring system a little bit. Eugene/Albert as well as Charles are thinking about a plexiglas plate, about 1cm thick. The corners would be cut, allowing for a fiber or bigger light guide to be glued there. Artush seems to think the 4 corners would not give uniform enough light on the plate. He thinks it would be good to have fibers going on each side also, spaced every 10cm or so. All this should be prototyped pretty soon, at least to know if a system like that is feasable, so we can incorporate it in the frame Artush is designing (support for the plate, possibility to remove it and so on). Artush will leave in October and the frame design needs to be finished by then.

    •
    • Al Tube anodizing/painting: We got a quote for anodizing or painting (in black) the whole system. For 750 pieces, it would cost about $8800 for painting and a little less for anodizing. Now we definitely need to see how good the result would be. Also one issue with anodizing is that since the process involves putting the object into a caustic solution, we might not be able to use a mask to not anodize part of the short tube (the socket fits in very tightly and with a paint or anodized layer, it wouldn't fit anymore). We will try to have a few samples of each within 2 weeks.

    •
    • Calorimeter aspect ratio: Once again, since Artush is leaving so soon, we need to settle the shape of our detector. Hence we need to get the Monte Carlo Sue has started, finished.
