Minutes: SBS Meeting Aug. 14, 2013 Attendees: Bogdan Wojtsekhowski, Alexandre Camsonne, Charles Perdrisat (On phone:) Brian Quinn, Seamus Riordan, Gregg Franklin, Nilanga Liyanage 1) Nilanga Liyanage gave an update on the GEM assembly at UVa a) See link for talk b) Last prototypes being assembled. Studying effect of fewer spacers. c) Discussion of how to detect non-flatness of planes. It was agreed to measure the capacitance between layers before and after removing the external support on the frames. d) Procurment delays through JLab are a problem. A few days of delay may cause project to slip months because Nilanga's time will no longer be available. e) WBS2 calls for producing 29 modules. WBS3 presently calls for producing an additional 35 (total of 64). If the coordinate detector is built, then only an additional 11 modules (total of 40) would be needed. The price for the modules in WBS3 would decrease. In addition, the price of the GEM readout electronics would decrease. These savings could be used to offset the cost of the scintillator hodoscope. f) Kondo Gnanvo is presently at CERN testing a 10,000 channel SRS readout system. 2) No objections or suggested modifications were raised for the last circulated version of the SBS collaboration charter (draft 3.3). It is now conssidered accepted. a) See link for accepted version of charter b) Brian will inform the Hall A CC chair (Julie Roche) of the formation of this new working group. c) A meeting of the Coordinating Coommittee will be organized once all representatives have been appointed. 3) A discussion of the meeting time found that the present (11:00-12:30 on Wednesdays) time appears to work in the coming semester.
