5.6.6.6   Analysis using ESPACE

The Hall A analysis package ESPACE is maintained by Eddy Offermann. Up-to-date instructions on how to obtain and run this code are on the web site www.cebaf.gov/halla/cal- ibrations.html and in a separately available ESPACE User's Manual. A version of this code which resides in the adaq account should be used by people on shift to check the data quality. An outline of the procedure to run the ESPACE in the counting room will be given here.

The analysis may done from the adaq account, preferrably using a computer which is not running RunControl. In the adaq account go to the espace directory, $EXPERIMENT/espace, by typing ``goespace''.

1.
Copy file ``ana_start.kumac" to ``ana_xxxx.kumac" where xxxx is the run number. Edit ``ana_xxxx.kumac" file and change the following 3 lines:

In the beginning of the kumac file in line

``set/file/output spec_xxxx.hbook"

and in the end of the kumac file in line

``set/file/header hdr_xxxx"

``file/scan /adaq2/data1/adaq/data/spec_xxxx.dat"

type in the correct run number in place of xxxx.

2.
Make sure that appropriate database and header files, such as db_oct19 and hdr_xxxx or more modern equivalents, exist in this directory. Edit the hdr_xxxx file and replace the dipole field setting (kGauss) with the correct value (1 Tesla = 10 kG). It is the second number in the line: `spece r 5 3.3244 +16.00 0.0 0.030 0.060'

3.
To start the scanning session with ESPACE type ``espace". The prompt espace> has appeared and the commands can now be typed in:

espace> exec ana_xxxx.kumac ( to start analysis)

.

.

.

.

espace> `number of' histograms saved to disk (message at end)

espace> quit (to exit ESPACE)

4.
After running ESPACE, look at the histograms using paw++, using one of the kumac files in the macro subdirectory. For more details about ESPACE see the User's Guide.
