High Voltage

In the detector stacks of each HRS a number of photomultiplier tubes are present as part of the particle detection system. The phototube bases require approximately 2500 volts at 2.4 mA. This voltage will be provided by a LeCroy high voltage supply, which can provide up to 3000 volts at up to 3 mA per channel (ie, a maximum of 9 Watts per channel). This voltage represents a potential hazard to personnel as well as a potential source of ignition.
