High Voltage

All of the potential personnel hazards and some of the potential source of ignition hazards are common to all detectors which use the LeCroy HV supplies and similar cabling schemes. Therefore, common guidelines for safe operation have been established. The high voltage power supplies are Class 1 devices and TJNAF policy regarding restrictions will be found in section 6230 of the TJNAF EH&S Manual. High voltage cables used are red jacketed RG-59 coaxial cables terminated in SHV style connectors. The center conductor of the cable is at high voltage while the outer braid is maintained at ground. All equipment using high voltage has a grounded housing. As a general rule no work should be done on detectors which are under high voltage and high voltage cables should never be removed or installed while the supply is on. []
