5.1.3.2  AC Power

There are basically three voltages of AC power service available in Hall A. These are three phase 208 volt power, three phase 480 volt power and single phase 120 volt power. There are two different types of 120 volt service available, regular and "clean" power. The clean power should be used for noise sensitive applications such as power supplies for detectors etc. It is not permissable to power machinery from the clean power. If you are uncertain about the use of AC power in any given situation ask the shift leader or any Hall A staff member.

The AC power is really three different systems.

1.
AC power for the air conditioning system, fans, and the outer perimeter of the hall (i.e. the outlets). This power is supplied from a transformer which is isolated from the power used for instrumentation.
2.
AC power (1800 Amps) for power supplies and instrumentation on the spectrometer. This power is distributed to various panels (all marked), and supplies power for all pumps etc.
3.
AC clean power

For specifics of the AC power, see the attached of electrical drawings (AC Power Distribution 65740-D-42000-00 Sheets 1-3, Utility Power Panels 65740-D-42000-01 Sheet 1 of 1, Clean Power Distribution 65740-D-42001-00 Sheet 1 of 1, Clean Power Panels 65740-D-42001-01 Sheet 1 of 1). There are circuit breakers located in several places around Hall A. If you encounter equipment that seems unpowered it is always worth checking the breakers. All outlets in hall A have a label that indicates which breaker box feeds it. Boxes are located on the east side of the ahll behind the balcony. Racks in the room adjacent to the truck ramp, along the side of the HRS EA/HA spectrometers, upstairs in the counting house.

The fire safety (VESDA) system, may also be responsible for loss of AC clean power. For more information see the section on fire in this manual.

Aside from the resetting of circuit breakers you should not attempt to solve any other problems associated with AC power distribution without consulting responsible personnel.

Anyone working on AC power in Hall A must be familiar with the EH&S manual and must contact one of the responsible personnel listed in Chapter ?? of this document.
