R. Michaels, Hall A The purpose of the Hall Accounting Software is to keep track of how the experiment spends its time, what is beam usage, etc. The software was written mainly by M. Bickley, with some add-ons by S. Wood, and is maintained on the adaq account on adaq Suns by me. Here is how to start the graphical user interface: 1) Log onto adaqs2 or s3 as user adaq (not adev) 2) Go to ~adaq/ACCOUNT, and type "atable". Probably this GUI is already running in a workspace like "Accounting". The usage seems fairly obvious and there is a Help button. Type in the numbers, hit "save" to keep the data. When you hit the "Submit" button, a printout comes out on cha1hp and an e-mail of the summary sheet is sent to various people like Hassler, Bob M., the run coordinator. If you only want a printout (e.g. you have already Submitted it and don't want to re-send e-mail) you can press the reprint button. If you have questions, ask me or one of the authors. The following are online help instructions: Buttons: Submit: Press this button after all data for a shift has been entered. It will make a print out of the data and send that printout by email to several users. The submit button should be used only once per shift. If the printout fails to appear, do not use the submit button again. Instead, make a copy of the file ~/ACCOUNT/HallAccount.report and print it by hand from the unix shell. Save: May be used at any time to save shift summary data that has only partially been entered. Clear: Removes all shift summary data, and clears all other fields. It will also add 8 hours to the shift start time. Dismiss: Will exit the program. If partial data has been saved, the program may be exited and restarted later. Reprint: Will make another printout of the most recently submitted data. Use This instead of Submit if you want extra copies of the report. Fields: Shift Leader: Enter the name of the shift leader here. Shift Workers: Enter the names of the shift workers here, one per line. Start time: Clicking on button next to start time brings up a menu from which the start time of the shift may be selected. Start date: Enter the date on which the shift begins in the format MM/DD/YYYY Definitions of some of the terms used in the hall time accounting interface: Beam available and acceptable: Beam is delivered to the experiment and meets predefined requirements or requirements as determined by the Run Coordinator. Beam available but not requested: No beam is delivered by request of the experimenter, but the accelerator is capable of beam delivery. Beam not available: The accelerator is unable to deliver acceptable beam. Experiment ready: The experimental equipment is ready to take data. Configuration change: The experimental equipments is operating within specifications but is not being used due to a need to modify some experimental condition, as determined by the Run Plan, such as: spectrometer rotation, target change, or magnet field change. This does not include such activities as repairs and modifications not defined in the Run Plan. Experiment not ready: The experimental equipment is not functional or an unplanned configuration change is occurring. Data taking: The time period when both 1) beam is available and acceptable and 2) the experiment is ready Items below "Data taking" are "reasons" for "experiment not ready". They are optional, but should be filled out as the data can be useful to Hall A. By convention, if beam is not scheduled for part of a shift, fill in both "Beam not available" and "Experiment not ready" for those hours. If beam is not scheduled for an entire shift, do not submit a shift summary. This page maintained by rom@jlab.org
