New work disk and data movement

Bob Michaels

This pertains to new Hall A work disk as of Oct 2006.
For a full listing of all disk see this list of disks.

When we were given new fileservers, we were required to move files
from the old ones. This affected about 1/3 of the total allocation,
i.e. 2/3 of our disks did not get touched.

From old fileservers I only copied files that were less than 3
years old. All the files, including the old ones, remain on the
old disks which will continue to exist until November 10 in a
"read-only" state, then they will disappear forever. So, you have
until Nov 10 to recover anything I didn't copy.

To find the old data, here is an example:
/work/halla/e02013/disk2.OLD points to the old disk
/work/halla/e02013/disk2 points to the new disk

If you don't see a ".OLD" then that disk was not moved.

As always, remember that work disk is SCRATCH DISK and
is NOT BACKED UP.   Keep important files in MSS or /u/home.
