Here is a checklist for Moller measurements.
The significant dangers are:
High current on Moller target would destroy it.
Incorrect configuration settings could lead to useless data.
SETUP
Beam and Screens
Ask MCC to shut the beam off and to mask the main-experiment target.
Move the main-experiment target to the empty position.
During Spring 2009 running, turn off Bigbite HV for wire chambers.
Setup the following diagnostic windows. (NewTools on hacsbc2)
Hall A Moller Polarimeter Control
Check Q1, Q2, Q3, and D for current (Amps) and BDL strengths.
Target Motion Control Screen
Use targets 4 and 5 for measurements
Target 4: encoder = 1.656
Target 5: encoder = 1.033
Target always sits on Right Switch
FSD screen: FSD Overview 1H001 Moller
FSD masking for Moller target -- judges should be green.
BPM Screen
Hall A Absolute Spikes, Hall A Position Summary
Ask MCC to adjust beam position if necessary.
Tools -- General Tools -- PGUN 3 Laser
Check Wein Angle.
Observe Laser Attenuator and Slit Position.
Ask MCC to load the Moller magnetic settings. This depends on energy. Cycle Q1,Q2,Q3, D, check on the screen mentioned below.
Beam current 1 uA CW.
Check beam position at Moller target (1H01). Need abs(X) < 0.5 mm and Abs(Y) < 1 mm at 1H01.
Need to close the slits to 15-16. (this kills tails from other halls beams)
Normally want an energy lock, either on Hall A or C.
Detectors and DAQ Setup
Moller DAQ: moller @ adaql1.
cd /home/moller/Java/msetting
Type ``mpc''
Load discriminator settings : DETSET.new
Default 49 needs to change on 1 and 2: Typically set to 270 and 300 for 1 and 2.
Check position of peak in ADC spectra to adjust threshold (see analysis below).
PLU module /out 2. Channels 0, 1, 3, 4, 12 should be selected with check box.
HV Settings Load Voltage Set: Select the file for correct beam energy.
Enable all HV settings for all energies (except channels 3 and 11 which are normally zero).
Portserver Info
hatsv5 2003 for HV
hatsv5 2004 for ROC11
Might need to clear a port (telnet hatsv5; user=root, pw=dbps; kill tty=4).
Starting the DAQ
moller @ adaql1.
Do a ``kcoda'' to clean up processes.
Type "start_coda" to start all processes including runcontrol.
Use the config "beam_pol" (warning: it may not be the first config listed)
Runs are normally 30000 events.
Raw data are stored in /adaql1/data1/moller
Settings are in /home/moller/daq/coda2/RunInfo
MEASUREMENT
Data Taking and Analysis
Take a CODA run
Analysis is done in Paw.
List of measurements with date: /home/moller/paw/moller/meas
cd paw/moller
Type ``paw'' (to enter paw)
In paw use commands like these:
exec sett magp e0=3.244 nq=2 p=1
(e0 is energy, nq is number of quads (2 or 3 depending on tune), p=1 for BDL and p=3 for Amps)
exec run run=13240
(13240 is the CODA run number. Do this first before doing other kumacs for this run.)
exec lg_spectra run=13240
(Check spectra -- actually a Spacal not LG -- for run 13240)
Pause to reflect on whether discriminator and HV settings are ok. Adjust and run again if necessary.
Asymmetry : exec asymu delay=0 run=13244
(delay=0 if helicity not delayed, otherwise perhaps delay=8)
exec asym_av run1=13244 run2=13250
(to summarize runs 13244 to 13250)
prunpri f(10000,20000)
(to get run tables)
Finishing and Filing Report
Procedure to finish the Moller measurement and back out of setup.
Pull out the Moller target. Position RL.
Disable all HV on detectors.
Ask MCC to restore regular magnet settings on Moller magnets.
Remind shift workers to run spot++ at 5 uA to verify raster
before putting in production target.
Final Analysis Steps :
Copy last.kumac to /home/moller/paw/moller/meas/090504_last.kumac (where 090504 is a unique date)
Likewise, cp runs.tab to meas/909504_runs.tab
After running paw summaries (see previous section), make HALOG report.
