Update Nov 19, 2008 Last Week: 1) Spent some time looking at the background events a) looked over T7 events with Seamus -- too few T7-only events to use b) looked at empty reference cell runs i) Coincidence events are NOT tracking back to the windows or the reference cell wall. End windows are cut out and plot of x v. y is in this folder: empty_xy.pdf ii) Comparing cell with hydrogen and the empty cell shows that a good vacuum is maintained: H2_z_target.pdf and empty_z_target.pdf c) Looked at background rates for empty and H2 cells. For the same back- ground cuts, H2 runs have rate 30x higher. So, the source of the background from the empty cells and the H2 filled cells are not likely comparable. d) Look at background ratio from N2? Same number of protons and neutrons. What we care about the most is the charged/uncharged ratio of the background. Can we assume the source of the background has an equal likelihood of starting from charged and uncharged particles 2) Corrected the error propogation in my asymmetry code. New result is: Background subtracted asymmetry: -0.0574946 +/- 0.00231525 (background error) +/- 0.00350194 (stat) (6.09319% -- stat ) Giving me A_phys = -0.266 (haven't finished error yet) 3) Used Gregg Franklin's method of extracting Lambda, I get Lambda = -0.2215 (compare to -0.206 +/- 0.028 from Seamus) T Values: T0: -0.0658651 +/- 0.0259464 T1: 0.977184 +/- 0.0276243 T2: 0.0834773 +/- 0.0339027 T3: -1.25358 +/- 0.176097 T4: -0.107544 +/- 0.045772 T5: 1.64596 +/- 0.370428 How these were determined: calculated a B,C,D for each event. Plotted the T's for the entire kin. 4 and fit them to a gaussian. Presented are the mean and the sigma. Collaboration Meeting: I am scheduled to present the work in Kin 4. I would like to present what I have been presenting at these meetings, as well as: the nitrogen dilution (straight forward), error budget (straightforward for now -- would like to do in depth later), and improved background analysis (if analysis is fruitful). Hope to discuss at the meeting if I can move on to kin 2 and writing. /amk
