Daily plan for PVDIS DAQ study and de-installation

Dec. 23, 2009

 1a) take close-up pictures of each crate, then each module. Download all pictures to the website. Make sure the focus is good;

 1b) lable all lables from the detectors, so that once the racks are taken out from the huts, we still know how many input signals are going to our electronics, and to where.

 1c) measure on the scope the tagger timing, that is, the timing between the delayed tagger and each group's signal. Draw a diagram to show results with numerical numbers. This will be crucial for later pileup analysis.

 1d) write down all cables that are going between the front and the back racks on an expanded diagram (for example, one separate diagrams for each group). Can print out several copies of the diagram from here and write down group numbers by hand.

 1e) put "Please do not touch" signs around the PVDIS DAQ racks, and leave contact (cell phone or pager number) information that will work during the holidays.

Jan. 4, 2010-Jan.8, 2010
(depending on everyone's schedule, part 1 can be done during the week of Dec. 28-30, 2010)

1) The following can either be done while the racks are in the hut, or on the floor. Note: this must be finished before Bogdan and Albert claim modules, which may be as early as Jan 5th. Remember that many modules
are borrowed from BigBite, GEN, and other experiments, and we cannot hold on to them too long.

 1a) Log down all modules/units used on an "expanded" electronic diagram. All extra units added to change signal shape/width should be written down. The diagram should be complete in the sense that I don't want to hear later
"Oh by the way there is a discriminator here to change the width of this signal because it's too wide..." (and that discriminator is not shown in the diagram).

 1b) Log down the same information for individual modules on diagrams that resemble pictures of the real setup. This in principle contain the same information as 2a), but can be directly compared/checked with pictures taken on Dec. 23rd.

 For 1a and 1b, even test signals/cables that were not used during the experiment should be logged, as long as they ARE there in the real setup (pictures).

 1c) measure all cable lengths. That include, again, All cable lengths, including every long/short cable going between modules, even if we are likely to keep some modules intact for a while. (Remember we cannot hold on to ALL modules too long). The cable lengths must be recorded in diagrams from both 1a) and 1b), with each cable labeled and length recorded.

from Jan. 11, 2010, until end of January 2010
2) Then, the following can either be done while the racks are in the hut, or on the floor (Jack will take the PVDIS racks out any time after Jan. 16th):

 2a) Disconnect all cables that are going between the front and the back racks, so the racks can be taken out from the hut.

 2b) Restore all shower, preshower cables to standard HRS experiment configurations;

 2c) Check if modifications have been made during PVDIS, on T1 and gas cherenkov signal upstairs.  If there are, write down all details and then restore to original configuration.

 2d) Final check to make sure all testing are done on both HRS PVDIS DAQs, while they are somewhat intact.

 2e) Make sure one HRS PVDIS DAQ stays intact for a long time, such as a few months. It can be moved to somewhere outside the hall (location TBA).
