Notes from Local Meeting Jan 14, 2005
This was a short meeting to cover hardware issues. Note, there is a collaboration meeting planned for Feb 18-19 at JLab.
Septum Sweep Magnet
Purpose: Sweep away low-E Moller scatters, reduce heating in septum by a factor of 7.
- E. Chudakov reports that he checked the design versus Brindza's. The reduction in heating was confirmed (the factor of 7). Brass or copper are more practical choices for construction than lead or tungsten, and are not much worse as collimating materials (radiation length, etc).
- KK commented that that we should make sure the number of radiation lengths is high enough; want to avoid polarized iron scattering.
New S0 Detector
Purpose: Provide unbiased trigger over entire acceptance (S0 below HAPPEX detector).
- B. Moffit said the plastic was ordered. Size is 180 by 25 cm, which is bigger than originally proposed.
- Design for the mount is pending.
Polarimetry
- D. Lhuillier will arrive in Feb for measuring photon polarization. He is writing a test plan now.
Cavity Monitors
- Sherlon Kauffman showed the cavity monitor electronics which is being installed imminently for tests with cavities in the BSY region.
- Goal is to show performance data by our Feb 18 meeting.
Targets
PREX Issues
- Test rig to be made to measure thermal conductivity of diamond. Diamond is used as a backing to lead to pump away heat. The issue is whether beam damages it.
- Beam test in Spring 2005 during e94107 (hypernuclear) to radiate diamond and measure thermal conductivity before and after the beam test.
Large Raster
- Want a 5x5 raster and had only 3x3 during HAPPEX 2004 with the optics that gave favorable phase advance. With quads off, raster maximum is 12x12.
- Discrepancy: J. Benesch says we should have seen a 8x5 raster (i.e. already big enough).
- Is BL known ? We will measure with a simple test -- turn quads off after target, measure spot size versus raster current.
- Calibration of current in raster ? Will be checked during Feb down.
- Prospect of hardware upgrade (more powerful HV supply or adding a 2nd raster synched to the 1st): Not feasible by summer 2005.
- J. Benesch will further investigate optics solutions.
