Notes from Local Meeting Dec 3, 2004
There were two meetings this day. The first about septum sweep magnet.
The second about general HAPPEX issues.
Septum Sweep Magnet
Purpose: Sweep away low-E Moller scatters, reduce heating in septum by a factor of ~6.
- E. Chudakov, P. Brindza, and A. Gavalya presented the design. It is nearly final except Eugene needs to check the collimator hole size (and verify the 5x5 raster was taken into account).
- Kees: need to finalize design ASAP.
- What is the effect of this quadrupole on the beam dump ? We'll ask Jay Benesch to check ASAP.
- What other shielding is needed ?
- Procedure for Q2 calibration was discussed. Sieve measurements with field on and off should suffice.
- Issue of virtual leaks. Need to test in vacuum in April.
New S0 Detector
Purpose: Provide unbiased trigger over entire acceptance (S0 below HAPPEX detector).
- Reported indirectly from B. Moffit and B. Wojtsekhowski: the design is nearly done, can probably order all parts next week.
Targets
- No new info, but KK reminded: We'll need thicker alum. target, the busted target should be tagged and saved (to be able to look at thickness), and we need to know if our data to measure thickness is adequate.
PREX Issues
- KK will do simulations of detector.
- Bob will provide KK info about the particle envelope.
- Can hypernuclear run with diamond as their carbon target ? It would help test radiation effect on conductivity.
Compton
- David L. will organize a test plan for laser measurements in Feb.
- S. Nanda, R. Michaels, H. Benaoum reported on measurements using the
new integrating method (advantage: lower systematic error, ~1%). See analysis results in HAPLOG. Results are consistent with counting method.
- Improvements to integrating method: More linear amplification and improvements to background subtraction algorithm. P. Souder helping.
Large Raster
- Find out if a more powerful supply can be obtained to provide 5x5 raster.
Data Analysis Issues.
- Tim Holmstrom finalizing database. Then finish Q2.
- Alum. wall thickness.
- Helium Q.E.
- Hydrogen systematic, dithering vs. regression.
- Poletip scattering: can we do a simulation ? Paul suggested looking at the runs where elastic peak was mistuned and measuring where the rebounding electrons came from (if they came from an area with no iron, it helps place a bound).
- Helium slug 0.
- Radiative corrections.
Publication Milestones
- Rough draft Letters for Hydrogen and Helium in January.
- Meeting in late Feb to present final analysis. Date unsettled.
