    keyword=halog scaler discrepancies

    It is worth noting that the scaler summaries in halog are slightly wrong because
    of the gating scheme, which is as follows. At the end of a run, the scaler gates
    are temporarily turned off and a last readout is performed. This last readout goes
    into the datastream and into the scaler_history file. After that script finishes, the
    scaler gates are enabled again, because people like to be able to view scalers in
    between runs. However, the script that makes the end-run halog entry is
    launched in the background, so as not to hang up anything, and it typically sees
    8 to 10 second of more accumulated counts because it finishes after the scaler
    gate was re-enabled.

    I also noticed that left and right HRS scalers counting redundantly don't
    always agree.
