    keyword=Still Tuning Beam

    Well, as of 20:30 on the swing shift 11/08 MCC is still tuning the beam. We are having dispersion problems, or so says the ELOG. At the end of the day shift, MCC was working on re-tuning the beam to cope with aspect ratio problems we've been having. It seems they still need some work.

    To Do:

    1) Finish up harp scan and fixing tune. 2) Try to opimize the compton rates. Take 1-2 hours for this, if needed 3) Try the Bull's Eye scan again. At least 2 points are missing (-2,-2) & (-2,2). At least the beam needs to be steered to the rest of the points to see if we have good control over beam positioning. 4) J.P.'s "Empty Target Walk" (walking the beam across the horizontal direction to get a feel for how well centered we are using the empty target). 5) Set the raster to 2x2mm (or there abouts) on the carbon target. Voltages from MCC of 5x6 gave us a 2x3mm raster at 1 GeV. It's probably as good a place to start as any. 6) Put in the lead target and "walk" the beam a bit to see if we can resolve the issue we've been seeing with the raster current and the lead target. It looks like we've got the beam on an edge somehow. Although we can't imagine how... 7) Take data for crying out loud! The spectrometers are set up for the first requested kinematics settings. The right is set for 0.53459 Gev/c and the left is set for 0.81376 GeV/c. Yes, they are different! The run plans are pinned to the bulletin board in the counting house. Yes, they are both for the Left, but no Right was posted as of the time I printed them. I'll check later and put up the appropriate Right one when it becomes available.

    We will call MCC at 21:00 to find out what the status of this current hiccough is...

    As of 20:45:

    1) The hall is in Bema Permit. 2) The spectrometers are set. 3) The target are cooled down and ready to go. 4) We are on empty target. 5) The detectors are on. 6) MCC is trying to tune the beam. 7) We are ready for the beam when it comes.

    We will pobably NOT be taking production data by 22:00 tonight. But it's not for want of trying.
