keyword=Left Q2 FuG power supply status

We continued the investigation of the problems in the Left Q2 FuG power supply. The problems seem to arise from corrosion of the wires on the 3-phase 480VAC input lines to the transformers. This has led to overheating and charing of insulation on the wires, as well as eventual disintegration of at least one wire. Things seem to be operating in a somewhat stable state for low currents. Not a good state, but somewhat stable. Degaussing of the LQ2 is out of the question. Running of a few hundred amps should be ok. Maybe 400, but that might be pushing it. There is a replacement transformer in storage. If the power supply fails this weekend we will be down till monday, when we will go in and start to replace the transformer. If we can limp along till tuesday, we will wait till tuesday to go in and replace the transformer.
