Here is what's going on at the moment with the neutron detector:
1) We're getting the sloping TDCs. They did flatten out when we increased
the discriminator thresholds (Runs 20399 [-75mV], 20400 [-100mV], and
20401 [-50mV]) but then we reset them back to -50mV. Discussing whether
to keep them at -50mV or change them.
2) Yesterday when I fiddled with the N2-6L discriminator wires to see if
I could get it's TDC signal back, I put the ribbon cable on incorrectly
(HALog
269195). It sounds like there's going to be an access during the
first half of swing shift today, so I'm going to go down into the hall
and fix it when that happens.
3) The replay script has a problem analyzing two runs in a row without
quitting the analyzer/root. To work around this at the moment the 3rd has
to exit the analyzer and restart it after every replay. Instructions for
this were added to the front room and the current 3rd informed that he
has to do this. Troubleshooting for this is on the list of Things To Do,
but might take some time before it's fixed.
4) I'm not finding any peaks where I feel comfortable doing gain matching
on. I could use some help with this. I took some cosmics runs yesterday
(20447 through 20453) but there's not as much there as there has been
during previous cosmics runs. Only 20447 was on the DAQ's ROC8Only
configuration, the rest were on RightHrs. I was told by Bob that this
shouldn't have caused a problem, so I let it run. Bryan has informed me
that the neutron detector can only take cosmics when the
configuration is ROC8Only.
5) The pedestal scripts for the analysis are now working. The output is
set up such that it will make an easy copy/paste in the
~adaq/e05-102/onlana/DB/20090424/db_NA.nd.p#.dat files. I'm backing up
everything before I change anything with those files. The pedestal
scripts are in ~adaq/e05102/ellie/pedestal_run_analysis/. To load them,
go to that directory, start the analyzer, then use the command ".x/
ND_n#_pedestals.C" where #=1, 2, 3, 4, or v (representing each plane).
The easy-to-copy/paste data is then put into a subfolder ped_data/ and a
version of data with more information on it is put in the subfolder
ped_data/more_ped_info/. Screen captures of the plots that run are stored
in the subfolder ped_data/ped_fit_pics/.
6) There might be a problem with the scintillator in the 3rd plane, 11th
bar from the top. Whereas (on an exponential y-axis) some of the TDCs
have a more-or-less even slope, both the Left and Right TDCs for this bar
have a slope that's increasing as the channels go to 0. Discussion is
ongoing.
