Run Coordinator's Report for September 11 Swing to September 12 Day
Summary
After some trouble with Q2 on the right arm, we are back to production
running in both arms. The run plan is to take parity production data and
Compton data tonight. The lumi widths have returned to normal, and the
Compton experts are working on getting the Compton running smoothly.
Significant News
- Q2 on the right arm was being very troublesome during the swing
shift, and finally was down because of power supply problems. We then
ran solely on the left arm until the day shift, when Jack came in and
went down to fix it when we went to controlled access at 10:00am.
- The Compton tuning was completed during the swing shift, with
background rates that we at least back to where they were earlier in the
week. However, after the Moller measurement, the rates went back up and
things needed to be adjusted. The Compton is still having some issue,
but the experts are working on it.
- A Moller measurement was done during the swing shift.
- Target boiling studies were carried out in the owl shift to
investigate the source of the large lumi widths. The lumi widths have
mysteriously returned to normal (halog
entry 289228 ). Mark Dalton has also posted a plot of the lumi
widths over time at the bottom of the page here: http://www.jlab.org/~adaq/slug_output/slug5_plots/
- It was verified that the X and Y on the raster are flipped in the
analyzer, so please take note of this (halog
entry 289094 and halog
entry 289224).
- There was a discussion about replacing ROC1/ROC2 on the Compton DAQ,
but it was decided that we should understand some of the other changes
that are going on first.
Plans
- Take production data! Watch the lumi widths to see if anything
changes. Please check the histograms on the online data monitor with the
reference ones on the shift how-to page (http://hallaweb.jlab.org/experiment/HAPPEX/opmanual/opmanual.html#HPXStartingonlineanalysis).
- Take Compton data. Alexandre will start looking at the electron
detector signals. People will also take a look at the Compton data from
this morning, where we had both photon and electron data.
Concerns
- The Compton polarimeter.
- There are lots of empty shifts that need to be filled immediately!
Please sign up!
- Keep a close eye on the lumi widths as we take data.
- Please make sure that the shift checklist is done once each shift.
- Snacks are running low in the counting house, as noted by Alexandre.
Sarah will remedy this.
