keyword=Changed X Windows fonts on hacsbc2
Earlier today, we changes the font path on the Linux control computer hacsbc2 to make the control screens look better. We added the following to the font path:
tcp/cch1:7100
tcp/cch2:7100
We added those entires both manually to the running server, using "xset +fp" and to the X11 configuration file /etc/X11/XF86Config.
The control screens are designed to work with fonts like "helvr08", etc. These are not available by default on Linux. To check which fonts are available, use "xlsfonts".
Supposedly, those fonts were installed locally on hacsbc2 earlier. However, they didn't appear, even when adding /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc to the font path. I might install local copies at some point in the future. For the moment, getting the fonts from the above servers works fine.
We restarted MEDM and associated screens, and they do look better now. One warning: Do not resize the main screen ("Hall A general tools") - some parts of the screens will get messed up.
