Sunday 11th November
Shift: Owl 00:00-08:00
(0) 00:00 AM. The previous shift finished the G- kinematic data taking with run # 2026.
(1) 23:50-00:20 The right spectrometer was moved to 32.95 degrees in order to change the kinematics to H-. All the quadruple magnets tripped, with the computers indicating an overtemperature problem. At 00:30, after discussing the problem with MCC, we discovered that MCC is having a water problem, which may be affecting our magnets.
(2) 00:35 The dipole magnet on the left spectrometer has just tripped; again an overtemperature problem, most likely related to the problems MCC are having. The experimenters in Hall B are also having magnet problems as well.
(3) 01:00 The Crew Chief came to the counting house and told us that one of the water pipes had ruptured. He also told us the problem probably would not be fixed during this shift.
(4) 02:35 The right dipole tripped.
(5) 02:40 The Crew Chief came to report that Hall B has a major water leak. They are checking Hall A and C. They will isolate Hall B from the rest of the system, and we can expect to be back up and running in a couple of hours.
(6) At 05:00, I called MCC for an update on the lcw problem. They said the level was lower than they expected, and they are still pumping up the level for Halls A and C.
(7) When we finished the analysis for the G- kinematics, we received an error message from ESPACE. We got a FORTRAN Runtime Error. Attempt to read past end of file. Wendy came in and clean the work disk up some. We were able to analyze a few detector runs, but then we got the same error message. Also when the last few physics replays were finished we got an error message stating that the Disk quota was exceeded, eventhough Work5 is only 50% used.
(8) At 6:50 AM, MCC finally called and said that the system is pumped up. We can now reset the magnets.
(9) 07:30 We have been unable to reset the quadruple magnets with the computer control. The tech person on-call has been notified and is on his way to the lab in order to reset the magnets manually in hall A. MCC has been notified we will require a controlled access to the hall when he arrives.
(10) We have reset the two dipoles and the Q1 for both spectrometers. We need controlled access to reset Q2 and Q3. Mark Stevens was paged and is here to reset the magnets.
