The spectra are clean for coincidence events. Thus, the garbage is due to lots of junk from the target getting to the focal plane after scattering in something else (focal plane doors, HRS apertures, etc).
The left side shows the coincidence events (cut on 0.6 < beta < 1.5)
The right side shows the single arm events (event type 3) with the same beta cut
