keyword=Carbon Multifoil Damagearound 0600, we asked for a controlled access to install the target collimators and to open the 3He bottle to the ref cell. when i looked inside the target chamber i saw damage to the carbon multifoils. below is the first y_tg spectra from after the septum heating tests. in y_tg, we should see 5 peaks corresponding to the five carbon foils located at (in y_tg coordinates) -0.031m, -0.016m, 0.0m, +0.016m, & +0.031m. we see only one clearly defined peak. this correponds to what i saw in the target chamber. the long foil appeared undamaged and standing straight up. the other 4 short carbon foils were tilted backwards in the downstream direction. in addition, i could see melted white/clear goopity goopy on the foils. these were probably the mounts to the foils. no need to ask the magic 8 about this one...
