    keyword=Problems with beam diagnostics

    We had a number of problems with our beamline diagnostics, some related when trying to run with 1.5GeV beam at 2 microamps:

    Problem: Our harp scan controls/analysis are not working for 1H03A, and the results for 1H03B are unreliable. Solution: getting our readback from the MCC's Harp Scan tools.

    Problem: The standard analysis of the 1C12 OTR signal is not reliable at this low current. Solution: Arne Freyberger has his own tools for looking at the OTR, and we will be using his analysis and EPICs variables to monitor the beam energy spread.

    Problem: Comparing the results from spot++ for raster on/raster off were not definitive. At all times the result looked about the same size (~1mm by 1mm). Resolution: After much hand wringing, decided the harps were more reliable. Judging the size of the beam with spot++'s dot plots is not accurate.
