E04-012 Shift
Plan: Saturday, May 22, 8:00 am - Sunday, May 23, 12:00 am
May 22, 9:00
am, Olivier Gayou, Run Coordinator (pager 584-5411)
Program:
Beamline
check run plan
LEFT: p0 = 2.490
GeV/c (+ polarity)
RIGHT: p0 = 2.500
GeV/c
(- polarity)
septum: 0.0
A
septum: 0.0
Move to BeO target,
and ask for 5muA,
centered on (O,O) on BPM A and B (+/- 0.1), raster OFF: check
beam on viewer: beam should be centered on the camera.
MCC should be able to see the beam on the dump viewer.
- Perform Harp Scan
(including a CODA run while doing the scan). Profile: 100 micron x 100
micron.
- Ask MCC to insert Hall A ARC
OTR and check it. (sigma_x < 0.24mm)
- Move to empty target and notify MCC you are going to ramp up
septum magnets.
- Ramp up septum magnets:
LEFT Septum: 230.52
A (+polarity)
RIGHT Septum: 231.45
A (- polarity)
- Ask MCC to check the beam dump viewer, and tune acordingly (beam
will be steered by the fields in the septa, so tuning might be
necessary so that it hits the beam dump). Write down the BPM A and B x
and y positions on the white board (expected: BPMA (x,y) ~ (+ 2,0),
BPMB (x,y) ~ (-2,0)).
- Perform another Harp Scan.
- Move to empty target.
- MCC takes beam for ~2-3 hours for RF balancing (100 muA will be
sent to the beam dump).
- Perform another harp scan.
- Move to
BeO target.
- Turn raster ON, and determine the settings to get raster 2mm x
2mm.
- Fast feedback should be ON.
- Move to 15cm LH2 target.
- Turn loop fan on to 60%
- Ask MCC to
increase current by steps, up to 25 muA, so that you can adjust the
cooling power on the target (~ 150 Watts for 25 muA).

run plan
- Prescalers:
Set the prescale factors according to
these rules:
- ps7 = 1;
- ps6 = 65535;
- T1 = T3
= 75 Hz;
- T2 = T4
= T1 / 10 = T3 / 10;
- T5 so that TOTAL
acquisition
rate is 700 Hz ( = T1 + T2 + T3 + T4 + T5 + T7)
- beam position: (check the white board)
- Watch the
SLI to monitor energy spread. We want energy spread < 6e-5.
25 muA, GOAL
-> 3 hours ABU
- Move target to 4 cm
LH2
- Target: 4
cm LH2
50 muA, GOAL -> 3 hours ABU
Scheduled events/Special tasks:
- In the middle of the beamline check, the beam will be taken by
MCC for RF balancing. This is to redistribute power to the cavities, to
be able to run 100muA with 5 pass, which is a large load on the
machine. 100muA will be sent to the Hall A beam dump at that time, our
target should be in the 'empty' position.
- As in Hyper Nuclear experiment, the fields in the septum magnets
will steer the beam away from the beam dump. So MCC needs to correct
for that. Procedure: start tuning with septa off. MCC should see the
beam on the dump viewer. Then ramp up both septa, ask MCC to retune
until they see the beam in the viewer. This affects the beam position
on the target: it will come at an angle (horizontal). Write down the
BPM A and B values that we should monitor (it was +2 in BPMAx and -2 in
BPMBx, which had a similar effect).
General Tasks:
- When recording settings, check whether they are correct;
don't just copy them.
- For each run do detector replay and compare with reference plots.
- After end of run do full physics replay from the ana
directory.
- HALOG any detector, DAQ trip and unusual observation when
they happen.
- Do shift checklist.
- Twice a shift HALOG control screens and septum & energy
spread strip charts.
- For STANDBY shifts, please HALOG the control screens and magnet
strip charts.
- If septa Tcoil >= 7.5 K, HALOG with TECH in title; only
8:00 am - 5:00 pm also call Ed Folts.
- Any problem that prevents data taking and that you cannot solve
within 30 min page the Run-Coordinator.
- During night and weekend shifts contact Tech on-call only
for emergencies (in doubt page RC). HALOG all events that will
require TECH assistance with the word "TECH" in the title.
Known Problems
- N2 level reading right Q3 (CLL72Q310) is not working
properly; ignore
Please log below (and in the HALOG) any unusual observations and
problems solved
