Concluded source study in the injector (access was required to Hall A, so no
beam past 45 MeV).
We performed RHWP scans with and without "Delta" offsets for both IHWP states.
We were able to find running positions for both IHWP states that provide
reasonably small position differences while also zeroing the charge asymmetry.
A closer look at the data we've collected will provide more specific and
reliable indication of the sources of position differences. A preliminary
inspection suggests involvement
from a significant analyzing power gradient and possibly a polarization
gradient on the beam incident to the Pockels cell (as well as the usual
birefringence gradients). The problems don't appear to be conspiring against
us, so we're pretty happy.
IA slope was also taken. The slope dropped by 40% during the gun change. A
coupling of about 1.2 nm/ppm in some bpms was observed; this is a little more
position difference coupling than we like. Increasing the IA slope might help
us with this; we'll play with the picomotor soon.
