    This problem with sockets on ROC17 is actually a well-known issue
    with vxWorks 5.4 (latest "improvement" to vxWorks) and it was solved
    for TS0, TS1 crates by modifying parameters on the kernel. I just
    regret that I didn't think about it before DVCS ran, since now people
    are reluctant to try a new kernel (well, you could take a 1-hour run
    and if it looks bad go back to the old kernel).

    Another code, in addition to "xscaler", which seeks connections to
    the scaler server is /scripts/getscaler (see "$DVCS/scread -i").
    If you comment that out, then NOTHING is getting sockets. Of course,
    this line has a use -- it is putting data into datastream.

    But this is silly. We should fix the kernel.
