    keyword=EPICS HV issue

    We took advantage of the down during the injector replacement to go into the hall and try swapping out the ethernet cable on the MVME board that reads out the HV crates. We then tried the usual reboots/reset/power-cycle tricks to see if it would boot while monitoring the process via the portserver serial interface.

    With the OLD cable the boot would stall within 10 seconds with the following error:

    Attaching network interface dc0... done. Attaching network interface lo0... done. Loading... Erroneous header read

    129.57.236.50:/cs/op/iocs/iochacs/vx/vxWorks: cat: Cannot open /cs/op/iocs/iochacs/vx/vxWorks: No such file or directory

    Error loading file: errno = 0x610001.

    A NEW cable was run from the MVME comm daughter card to the "Bigbite Switch" on the floor by the phone. Rebooting with that cable in place resulted in the above error disappearing. However, the boot appears to stall after the "Loading..." line (nothing else came up after a several minute wait).

    We plugged the old (yellow) ethernet cable back in but left the new (blue) cable looped near by for future testing.

    Steve: In case you have spares, the relevant module numbers for the single-board computer and comm card are MVME 2700 and MVME 761-001, respectively.

    Steve, part 2: Could you pick up that ethernet coupler and move the switch off the floor. There is a 10' ethernet cable by the switch that you can use.
