    Swing Shift Summary for Thursday, October 20, 2005

    The Shift Crew: Sarah K. Phillips, shift leader
    Armando Acha, target wrangler
    Dimitri Margaziotis, data master

    Special Guest Appearances by:
    Bob Michaels, run coordinator
    Kent Paschke, current scan artist
    Brad Sawatzky, run coordinator-in-training and magnet IOC reboot advisor

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    Highlights:

    16:00 - 17:00 -> Production running.
    17:00 - 17:30 -> Kent does a current scan
    17:30 - 20:45 -> Production running
    20:45 - 21:50 -> IOC for left arm magnets dies; Q2, Q3, and left dipole trip; Runs 5778, 5779 have mostly just production data with the right arm.
    21:50 - 24:00 -> Production running, both arms

    Took 325.5 k = 1.26 C!

    The Run Plan:

    1. Production Running
    2. Current scan by Kent and Bryan at some point during the shift; I need to inform Hall B before we start this test.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Run Down

    16:00 - Shift starts off in production mode with both arms, and with the Compton running as well.

    16:29 - adaql3work1 is alarming and beeping in a really annoying manner. Kent comes in and has me page Ole so he can fix it. No response to the page.

    16:31 - Kent makes some adjustments to the dithering parameters to make the modulation pattern more pronounced; Hachemi restarts the Compton DAQ in the counting room for me since he has finished with it in the back room.

    16:57 - Kent goes to tell Hall B that he is going to set things up for the current scan. We are still taking production data.

    17:02 - Ended the production run and Compton run; Kent starts the current scan.

    17:23 - Kent finishes the current scan; we go back to production running.

    17:31 - Kent requests a bleed-through measurement from MCC to occur during this run (run 5776).

    20:45 - The IOC for the magnets on the left arm dies, so we reboot. Q2 and Q3 have tripped off, so we are cycling them while we ramp up the left dipole. We have left the DAQ going so we are still collecting data with the right arm for this run 5778 (and the start of the next one 5779).

    21:16 - Still trying to get the dipole to respond. It keeps going to the wrong current. Still taking production data with only the right arm. I page Bob to find out what the secret to this is.

    21:28 - Bob calls and says to turn the NMR regulator off, then type in the desired current (1099 A). When the current starts getting close, turn the NMR regulator back on. Then toggle the momentum setting in the last digit to get it to zone in on where it needs to go. We are trying it...

    21:47 - Dipole magically fixed by Brad. Hooray! See halogs 157537 and 157538. Ended run 5779 early, and started run 5780 with both arms running.

    22:25 - Compton CODA crashes AGAIN when I stop the run. It dies at every end of run! I think that it does not like me that much...

    24:00 - Shift ends with everything running smoothly.

    I have not answered the phone as the wrong hall in two whole shifts now! Yay!

    Special thanks to Bob's wife for the yummy spring rolls!
