Started the shift with the Hall A fast raster system broken.
10:00 AM Bill Gunning replaced power supply for raster.
10:55 Bob Michaels finished ADC repair of Raster for both HRS.
Put in Carbon target and start Bulls eye scan.
Set beam to 5 ua. Turn off raster. Check T3 scaler with beam spot position at (-4,2) T3 = 320 Hz.
Set beam at each of the 4 extreme positions of (-6,5),
(-6,-1),(-2,-1) and (-2,5) and check T3 Rates to be sure it is about constant. At the position (-6.5) T3 rate doubled. At the position (-2,-1) we lost beam. T3 rate was okay (about 300 Hz) at the other two positions.
MCC complained that we set the beam so far off axis that they could not tune it through the Quads to the target. We decided to
put the beam back at center (-4,2), turn on raster and noticed that raster beam was not at the center. This was not understood.
Arun Saha was called.
Now we repeated the entire Bulls eye scan. This time the rates were constant at all the positions and we also checked the position with spot++. Positions were all as expected. We determined new scaling factors for MCC raster postions. To get raster size on target of (4,6), we request (8,7.4) from MCC. No the numbers are not reversed.
We do not know why the bulls eye scan worked out the second time around except for the fact that Arun ruled with an iron hand, particularly with the operators.
Now conduct beam curremt scan on C from 50 to 100 ua. MCC can't get passed 55 ua. We now learned that the beam optics and energy has changed from last night. Arun requests MCC to go back and set up machine and energy as it was last night.
3:45 PM Now in the process on tuning the beam to last night conditions.
