    keyword=Left Q3 drifting is a known problem

    Left Q3 will periodically shift off its setpoint by a small amount (just enough to trigger the alarm handler), stay there for several hours and then shift back. This has been happening for months (at least). The techs have a few theories as to what is causing the problem, but it is proving difficult to fix.

    Right now we're just living with it. The consensus is that the drift is small enough that it should not affect the optics enough to worry about.

    There are two rules for shift workers regarding LRHS Q3:

    1) Do NOT try and fix the shift by twiddling the LHRS momentum setpoint. This can kick the dipole off its mark and cause you to stop taking data for 10 minutes while it restabilizes.

    2) Do NOT silence or disable the global alarm handler to turn off the beeping. This is a tricky one because you don't want to get used to the beeping either and miss a 'real' alarm. Ask the RC how to temporarily (1 hour) silence the Q3 alarm _only_.
