On Wednesday, October 1, 2008, I tried to reproduce the problems
observed last May with NMR probe A on the left dipole at around
330 Amps. Both probes A and D behaved as they are supposed to.
(i.e. searching over their full range until finding a clear resonant
signal and locking on to it).
I didn't make a log entry at the time because of problems with the
halog entries (see entry 0 on October 1, 2008 at 15:51). I did have
some problems with the regulator, but after discussing it with Javier
we concluded that my problems were the result of the Hall probe not
being plugged in. At that time the feed-through flange had been removed
and only the NMR's and gradient compensating coils were hooked up. The
way the controls work is that the first thing it does is check to see
that there's field in the magnet as indicated by the Hall probe. Seeing
nothing the routine just sat there waiting. So, until further notice
we'll continue to use probe D as the default, but A appears to be working fine now too.

Yesterday (10/2), I gave Ed Folts the go-ahead to button things up.
