    Dian Cheng

    Special Guest Appearances by:

    Seamus Riordan, run coordinator
    Alexandre Camsonne, Compton expert
    Mark Dalton, conversationalist

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    Highlights:

    16:00 - 17:04 -> Production running
    17:04 - 17:50 -> Access to hall to put in Compton shielding and do
    something to the DAQ
    17:50 - 18:48 -> Beam recovery procedure
    18:48 - 21:52 -> Production running
    21:52 - 23:20 -> adaql1 dies and parity DAQ fails; Bob comes in to help
    us get it going
    23:20 - 23:30 -> No beam (MCC took it to fix magnet trim card at 23:00).
    23:30 - 24:00 -> Production running

    The Run Plan:

    1. Production Running
    2. Hall access to put some shielding in around the Compton photon detector
    2. More production running

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Run Down

    16:00 - Shift starts off with production running

    17:04 - Access to the hall: Alex goes into the hall for an escorted
    access to put shielding around the photon detector. Alex, Meghan, and
    Dian Cheng went into the hall. Xiaochao also asked them to do some DAQ
    work in the hut on the left arm..

    17:44 - Going to the empty target in preparation for getting beam back.

    17:50 - Everyone is out of the hall and we are starting our beam startup
    procedure. Only one harp (Harp B) was scanned, because harp A isn't
    working tonight.

    18:42 - Everything looks good; ramping down the VDCs to go back to
    production running.

    18:48 - Going back to production running!

    19:25 - we go down to 98 muA to see if that helps with the beam trips.

    20:05 - MCC is having BLM trip issues, which is making our beam so
    unstable. They have dropped us to 90 muA and are trying to edge it up to
    100muA.

    20:20 - We are steady at 90 muA right now, while MCC is investigating.
    Seamus says to stick at the steady 90 muA if we have to, and Paul's
    calculations back this up.

    21:30 - It sounds like we may be at 90 muA for the night. MCC is still
    trying to get us to a higher beam current, but whenever they do, we just
    jump up to 20 trips per hour. The trip rate is dropped in half by going
    to 90 muA.

    21:52 - The parity DAQ fails to start the next run, so we go to do a CODA
    reboot, but adaql1 refuses to respond, and we cannot even ssh into the
    machine. I page Bob, who says that we can reboot the machine. The
    reboot fails completely...it won't even come up with a boot screen. We
    run out of options pretty quickly, and call Bob again, and he is on his
    way in. As a side note, the beam is fairly stable right now. We are
    taking data on the two spectrometer DAQs, but the logbook numbering is
    messed up and we have lost our beamtime accounting. The last parity run
    is also stuck somewhere on adaql1. Alexandre comes in and agrees that
    the thing is "screwed up".

    22:25 - Bob arrives and starts working on adaql1. He gets it to come
    back up, and gets CODA running (run 13961), but it starts having issues
    after a while. Bob does a full reboot of CODA again, as well as all
    crates. After reboots, we see that Ole posted a halog not to reboot.
    Oops... But we are running again.

    23:00 - MCC called. The beam will be gone for a little bit while they
    change a magnet trim card. It shouldn't take long.

    23:20 - DAQ up and going, but no beam.

    23:30 - Beam comes back! We do the spot++ checks and go to production
    running again. We're at 85 muA at the moment.

    23:50 - The Pockels cell's negative setting has gone from 7 to 0.9 since
    the last time that we were successfully running, and the pita now has a
    slope of -20790. Our charge asymmetry has gone from -10 to -3500 ppm.
    We are on the phone with Rupesh to figure out what is going on. See
    halog 299935. He is coming in.

    24:00 - We are in production running mode, but Rupesh is on his way in to
    correct the Pockels cell issue. I think that we found everything that we
    need to have going that was on adaql1, but the next shift crew is being
    made aware that we had some issues. Rupesh has arrived to fix the
    Pockels cell settings, and things seem to be smoothing out a bit in general.
