keyword=Right Dipole Compensating Coil polarity switch bad
We went in the hall to check if the Compensating Coil power supply
polarity switch was set correctly. The NMR was not locking in and the
software regulator was having trouble. I found the polarity switch in the
correct position. The supply said about 9V and 0A output on the little
panel meters. Looking with a DMM I saw about 8.9V on the output. I tried
checking the contacts on the cable going from the switch to the Dipole.
Contact was uncertain because the light was poor, but I think there was
0V across the contacts. I switched the Kepco supply off, toggled the
switch a couple of times, and turned the supply back on. I got a light,
verified I made contact, and read about 8.9V on the cable to the Dipole.
The panel meter showed about 1A output. We looked at the Left Arm to
verify this was about the correct amount. We will need to replace the
switch at a convenient time, and move the voltage readback connection
points to a more rational position.
