    Here's an idea to check helicity.  It occured to me on the way home.
    
    Plug in the 960 Hz master pulse (called T_settle) into the trigger
    supervisor as trigger 9, say.  The DAQ will run at 960 Hz with no 
    deadtime and we can check the TIR bits (and ADC) which read the helicity.
    This can be cross-checked with the ring buffer that we rely on normally.  
    
    As an example of what you *might* see: clean TIR data, nothing wrong with
    helicity, but some "glitchiness" in the ring buffer (scaler).
    
    To fully benefit from this test, a rapid offline analysis would be
    imperative.
