The heavy lifting is done by hacweb1 (the computer up against the glass in the counting house). The software should restart automatically after a reboot, but please refrain from rebooting that machine unless it is really down hard. (See below.)
I'm told that the machine's X display has a history of locking up. I believe this is due to the video card overheating. The video card is a horrific beast with a crappy fan and high cooling requirements. I pulled it out and blew a bunch of lint out last week. It seems to have been running smoothly since then... I also tried installing a different video card but the brain-damaged Dell bios refused to POST. Stupid Dell...
Before I blew the dust out I did have the X display lock up. The keyboard seems dead too (presumably because the X11 process is deadlocked but has still grabbed the device). I was still able to ssh in and reboot properly.
