    Entry number 7588

    keyword=HALOG Problems

    Hi,

I started having a look at the HALOG problems that we had been
experiencing. On the advice of Bob Michaels, and the realization
that the /net/fs1/home/adaq disk quota was pretty full, I decided
to move some of the old E93027 log files over to another location.

For future reference, they are now in the directory

    /net/adaqh2/home/adaq/halog_archive

After doing this, I also noticed that the entry number was screwed
up on a lot of the recent entries. I traced this to a problem in the
    file

    /adaqh2/home/adaq/halog/src/locks/LastLogNumber

which is supposed to contain the number of the last log entry,
but was actually empty. I suppose that it is possible that this
file was not written out properly when the disk quota was exceeded
    at some point.

As a final note, it seems insane to me that the adaq account only has
about 75 MBytes of space on the /net/fs1/home disk. I think someone
(Ole or Bob) should talk to the computer center and have this increased
by a factor of 10 or so. After all, this is not just some everyday user
account, it is a data acquisition account.

    Happy Logging !!

    Cheers,
    Ed.
