Minutes of Hall A Group Meeting January 7, 2014

1)    Thia Keppel

a)    Happy New Year!

b)    From the senior staff meeting:

i)       Budget:

(1)  We're good up to January 15 (stay lean but we're OK)

(2)  For the rest of FY14 expect Ops will increase for accelerator startup otherwise we expect to know what we'll have.

(3)  Guidance for FY16-20:

(a)  Suggests a number of weeks of operations year by year

(i)    "Grim!" backlog goes to 15 years

(ii)   Expect we'll push back

ii)     Performance appraisal process continues, please schedule with Thia for any questions

iii)    Supervisors will have to get training re restructuring (should have gotten an e-mail)

iv)   Open House is tentatively scheduled for May 17

v)     Prioritization PAC: experiments have received the necessary forms and need to send them back in a timely fashion

vi)   EIC:

(1)  Received funds from Virginia for planning studies

(2)  Will have a review ~January 15-16

vii)  Accelerator Readiness Review 2 is scheduled for January 29. Doug is the Hall A contact. Help him when he asks for help.

viii) There's no longer a plan to have beam in the tagger hall this spring (generally not good news, but opens some possibility we could get more beam time for Hall A)

c)     Get calendar orders to Stephanie ASAP

d)    Have a talk scheduled for next week's meeting. Will need more after that.

2)    Robin Wines

a)    DVCS/GMp:

i)       Sieve slit work is in the machine shop

ii)     Floor plates went to the machine shop yesterday

iii)    Working on windows

b)    Compton: have discovered a bellow offset, waiting for Sirish to return to consider corrective actions

c)     Raster surveyed OK

d)    Tritium Target: Conceptual design passed on to Dave Meekins, waiting on his review

e)    SBS:

i)       Machining of steel was awarded. Vendor will pick up the pieces this week

ii)     Race Track coils awarded

iii)    Rebidding the saddle coil (more vendors)

iv)   Continuing with design of support structure

v)     Working on GRINCH and BigBite Cherenkov

3)    Ed Folts

a)    Cryo cleanup is finished

b)    Continuing with Jib Crane

c)     Staging for move to the Testlab

d)    Beamline is surveyed up to Møller

e)    Test fitted the target extension

f)      Working on documentation

g)    Continuing with punch list

h)    Ready to close up the Unser. Asks if anyone objects.

4)    Bert Manzlak

a)    Reminds all to check their training records and make sure everything is up to date

b)    Reminds all to report any injury to your supervisor and Health Services (generally take it to them for evaluation and treatment as needed)

c)     Incident in the Physics Division just before the holidays, tagged radioactive material was moved without RADCON approval. Please, remember your rad worker training and obey instructions on all signs and tags.
