PREX   Heating and Cooling Controls

Purpose:   To maintain a more constant temperature on the O-ring connection after the Pb/D target.   The idea is to minimize the swing in temperature between beam on and beam off.   This will reduce thermal cycling which threatens to break the seal.

Update:   May 27, 2010.

• Common sense:   if beam is on, we want:
• Cooler on.
• Heater off.
• Common sense:   if beam is off, we want:
• Cooler off.
• Heater on.
• Since heating timescales are about 2 hours, note:
  • Do not need to react to beam trips.
  • Do not need to panic or be in a hurry.
• Go to hacweb8   (Web-based "APC" Power Control).
  • Login info is on the white sheet of paper for "Passwords" near white board.
  • Hint: apc
  • Click "Device Manager" at top
  • Click "Control" on side.
  • The rest is pretty obvious.   E.g. click "on", then Control Action "Off Immediate", then Next, then Apply.
  • The "Cooler" (aka "blower") is on 1st channel.
  • The "Heater" is on 9th channel (different circuit breaker).
  • Important:   Be sure to Log Off !!
  • If you don't log off the next person may have difficulty logging in, although there's a timeout for the login and we do have a 2nd account if necessary.
