To setup an APC PDU that is in its factory default state

connect to a terminal on the serial port
(for example, Hyperterminal on the PC)
   9600 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no handshake


login as administrator
    username: apc
    password: apc

under Network
   select "TCP/IP"
   "Boot Mode" should be "manual"
   selecting "manual" will bring up a menu
   setup IP, subnet mask and gateway
   then backup and select "DNS"
   setup "Primary DNS Server IP"
   "Reverse DNS Lookup" should be "Disabled"
   select "Accept Changes"

The first menu should look like this

Selecting "Network" (by entering a "1") will bring up another menu.

Selecting "TCP/IP" (by entering a "1") will bring up the following menu.
This is what the menu should look like after you are finished
changing anything.  Network started or not started will depend on
whether this PDU is in the default state and whether it is connected
to the network or not.  So, this is not really important at this time.
The MAC Address should be different for each PDU, but, it should be
six groups of two hexadecimal characters.  The "xxx" in the "System IP"
should be replaced with the IP address you want the PDU to have.

Selecting "DNS" (by entering a "2") will bring up the following menu.

Enter "Accept Changes" (by entering a "4"), otherwise any changes you
made will be erased when you exit this menu.
