Plan for target boiling studies

  • Start with LHRS at 15 degrees and P0 = 2.0 GeV/c. If the rate is too high (several hundred kHz), move LHRS to 30 degrees (to keep rate in the detector not too high, and inefficiencies to a minimum).
  • Begin with a "standard" setting for the raster size (3x3 cm) and fan speed (60 Hz).
  • Start at 5 uA, collect sufficient statistics (1-2 M events).
  • Switch to carbon foil and collect data for non-boiling reference. (Check BCM systematics, etc.)
  • Increase beam in 5-10 uA steps, collecting statistics at each, until maximum current is reached. Adjust the prescale factor as needed to keep event rate within reason with less than 10 % dead time
  • If time allows, adjust raster size (2x2, 4x4) or the fan speed, and do full current scans.
